Disney characters and traditional Japanese art may just have a natural affinity, as we recently saw when an amazing artist turned Disney princesses into ukiyo-e woodblock paintings.
Now Mickey Mouse is throwing his hat into the Japanese art ring. The iconic mascot of the world of Disney is now lending his likeness to a lineup of bags and shirts where Mickey is striking classic Kabuki theater poses.
The lineup comes from Endo Luggage, a fashion and bag maker dating established in 1824. The "Mickey Mouse/Made in Japan" collection has Mickey Mouse recreating the famous portrait of kabuki actor Ōtani Oniji III by 18th century Ukiyo-e woodblock print designer Tōshūsai Sharaku, as featured in a recent lineup of Mickey Mouse Japanese art themed iPhone cases.
The woodblock print Mickey Mouse bags and shirts are available to order from hopely in Japan.
