This year the New National Theater Tokyo will participate in World Opera Day on October 25 and World Ballet Day on October 29. Both World Opera Day and World Ballet Day are major international events in which opera houses, ballet companies and artists from various fields from all over the world participate in the online video distribution.

On World Opera Day, the chorus and four soloists from the New National Theater will perform the fourth movement of Beethoven’s ‘Symphony No. 9’. 2020 marks 250 years since the baptism (and assumed birth year) of Beethoven.
The performance will be streamed online and available worldwide to commemorate the special event.
Additionally, for one week from Friday 23 October a recording of the theater's performance of ‘Turandot’ – a famous italian three-part opera – will be available to watch free of charge on the theater’s website.

On October 29, World Ballet Day will see live studio performances from the rehearsal room of the New National Theater Ballet Company. The dancers will share rehearsals of ‘Ryugu Castle’ and ‘Don Quixote’.

All of these events are of great importance following the outbreak of COVID-19, as it brings a chance for people to come together all over the world, no matter their country or language, through performing arts.
