Odakyu Electric Railway has just installed a 124-meter advertising signboard along the length of the Odakyu Odawara Line’s Yoyogi-Hachiman station, making it the longest advertisement space in Japan.
The signboard will utilize the continuous wall space that runs parallel with Yoyogi-Hachiman Station’s platform. In order to make the best use of the space, only one company’s advertisement will be shown at a time.
The advertisements will be visible along the full length of the platform, and if you look at it from the window of a moving train, you will notice how the signboard fits together into one continuous story.
The signboard is also ideal for those looking to advertise an anniversary of a long-running product or event, with the long available space being a good opportunity to show a timeline of historical materials.
The first advertisement to make use of the space will be for Kirin Beverage company. Celebrating the 35th anniversary since the release of Gogo no Kocha, the display will feature imagery of ‘happy moments and afternoon tea’ as well as uplifting catchphrases along the 124 meter space.
Installed on 17 March 2021, Kirin Beverage’s ‘Gogo no Kocha Happy Photo studio’ display has a total size of 1.97m x 124m.
To the average citizen, such a board might not be of much interest, but for Graphic Design and artists, the space opens up new creative opportunities in the advertising world.
