Sometimes life's greatest guilty pleasure can be overindulging in some junky comfort food that we're not entirely sure we should be having (like fried rice out of a bag) but just tastes so good.

Japanese cooking columnist Yuri Yamamoto (@syunkon0507) knows that feeling very well, and recently introduced a simple five ingredient recipe for cheese lovers that has exploded on Twitter.

One look at the finished product will have you wanting to whip up your very own batch!

The recipe is based around a popular snack of a 6-piece package of triangular cheese sold at Japanese supermarkets and convenience stores. Fear not, even if you can't get the exact right package, any cheese you can arrange into triangles as seen in the pictures will do.

Here's the ingredients:

1 box of 6-piece cheese

2 potatoes (259g)

1 tablespoon potato starch

2 tablespoons water

Salt and pepper to taste (adjust to taste)

First, prepare the potatoes.

Wash the potatoes, wrap each one in plastic wrap with the water still on it, and cook for 4 minutes.

Turn them over and cook again for 1 minute. When you are sure they are soft, soak the entire wrap in water and let cool until hot to the touch.

Once you've removed the skin, mix in 1 tablespoon of potato starch, 2 tablespoons of water, and your preferred amount of salt and pepper while crushing it.

Then, divide into 6 equal portions, wrap the six pieces of cheese, sprinkle with potato starch, and cook in a pan until golden brown.

According to Yamamoto, the 6-piece cheese should be browned on all sides in the oil. The trick is to turn the heat down to medium-low and don't touch the potatoes for a while until they are browned.

The gooey cheese that flows out of the flaky but crispy potato bites is just so decadently appetizing!
