CyberConnect2’s original manga “Chaser Game” dives into the Japanese video game industry
It's no secret that many popular video games feature female characters with extremely good looks and a disdain for practical clothing. Some people don't mind this and just accept it as what works in a world of fiction, while others find it as offensive over-serialization. Bulimia.com clearly sides with the latter line of thought, and has produced a set of images that spell out some of their frustrations.
Bulimia.com states that "The difference between the original video game heroines and their more realistic interpretations is hardly subtle. In these images, unfeasible waistlines expand and arms and legs grow wider. Perhaps the changes are especially noticeable since most of these characters are so scarcely dressed....he perpetuation of unrealistic body imagery in the media can have decidedly negative repercussions. One could argue that the social pressures to obtain perfection are reinforced even through the depiction of video game characters. "
In an effort to make people aware of this, they have touched up some iconic female video game characters with photoshop--providing a side-by-side comparison of the character and an interpretation of what they would look like with "average American woman measurements".
