In a small candle shop in Ishikawa Prefecture exists and astounding invention that won’t be found anywhere else in the world. That invention, made possible by 80-year-old Hiroo Matsudaira, is the majestic and awe-inspiring Rainbow Candle.
Yes, we're talking about a candle that burns in the colors of the rainbow!

Patented by Matsudaira, the Rainbow Candles are the first and only ones of their kind that exist in the world.
Matsudaira first started off making candles that burned in a single color, but one day decided to mix them all into a rainbow. After years of trial and error, his efforts came to fruition, and he finally succeeded in making the flame burn in a magical blend of colors.
If you’re wondering why you’ve never heard about these amazing candles up until now, it may be due to the fact that Matsudaira has lacked the resources to actually market his invention to the rest of the world. That certainly is less of an issue now, though — Japanese social media users have been sharing information about this unique candle store, spreading the love and knowledge of these rare and beautiful candles in his place.

Currently, there are 5 types of Rainbow Candles that burn for varying lengths of time — 4min, 5min, 15min, 30min, and 60min.
The Rainbow Candles can be purchased online (domestic shipping within Japan only), but are of course available at Matsudaira’s store, Tatsumi-An. And if you visit on a weekend, you might be lucky enough to see a live demonstration by Matsudaira himself!
