Often regarded as Japan's mecca of culture and tradition, the ancient capital of Kyoto is a very understandable popular travel destination and must-see for anyone visiting Japan. Outside of the delicious food and rich historical sights, the city has an aesthetic character that responds beautifully to photography---particularly in absolutely gorgeous snowfall. Just recently on Reddit, however, a picture was posted by user ril3dyx of the city's sunset scenery that has completely showcases the timeless and serene beauty of Kyoto.

Although much of the scenery in Studio Ghibli's beloved Spirited Away is based on locations in Taiwan and onsen in other regions of Japan, many in the thread commented expressing a strange nostalgia related to the movie, as if wandering down those quiet streets toward the Yasaka Pagoda might lead them to a world where overeating may turn them into pigs. Fortunately the photographer, lestaylorphoto, has an Instagram account that does away with those concerns and shows other breathtaking shots of the incredibly scenic city of Kyoto.

One of Kyoto's most iconic sights is the bamboo grove of Arashiyama, a captivating yet calming walk through a gorgeous pathway of towering green.
