The Studio Ghibli Art Exhibit Looks So Freaking Cool At Night
Donguri Republic (Donguri Kyowakoku) is the source of all the coolest Studio Ghibli merchandise in Japan. They deal in anything from tableware, to tea leaves to stylish clothing. This Ghibli wonderland has goods to suit any fan of the legendary animation studio.
It’s been 30 years since the classic film Kiki’s Delivery Service was first shown in cinemas, and to celebrate that milestone, Donguri have teamed up with apparel brand GBL, who specialise in ‘American casual’ style clothes.
A staple of American casual style is surely the letterman jacket, a piece of outerwear originally worn in colleges and high schools to signify participation in a sports team, but has now become a fashion item. In this vein, they are bringing out a letterman jacket with a Kiki’s Delivery Service theme.
The jacket has been designed so you can show off your support for team Kiki, with ‘Go! Go! Kiki’ written on the back. Underneath an image of Kiki zooming past on her broomstick with 1989 written on her dress, it says ‘we fly with our spirit’ in an imitation of a sports team’s motto.
The front has a ‘witch’s cat’ insignia with Jiji the black cat in the middle, and the opposite side has a number 13 emblazoned.
There's plenty of cool little details too, such as the Kiki silhouette design on the buttons. The jacket was made with the autumn/winter season in mind as the Melton fabric used is known for keeping the wearer warm.
The stylish jacket doesn’t look like a novelty item at all, and could be a fashionable addition to anyone’s every day wardrobe.
It will be available for pre-order from Donguri Republic's online shop from 13th July and the luxurious item will cost 29,800 yen (about $280) not including tax.
