Odaiba's Diver City has long been a special place for fans of iconic anime Mobile Suit Gundam, previously housing a life-sized RX-78 Gundam statue that was removed to great heartbreak, as well as an epic RX-0 Unicorn Gundam statue. Now fans are shifting their attention to Yamashita Pier in Yokohama, where a 18-meter moving Gundam is set to debut at the upcoming Gundam Factory Yokohama.
Scheduled to open on October 1st, the Gundam Factory Yokohama will also include a two-story shop and cafe area, as well as an exhibit detailing the building process of the new Gundam. The giant mobile Gundam feature attraction is the brainchild of the Gundam Global Challenge, a project supported by engineers and researchers dedicated to building a life-sized Mobile Suit. Visitors can get up close and personal with the new Gundam by climbing the scaffolds of its docking area, as well as watch it walk!
While waiting for the October 1st unveiling, fans can keep up with the current Gundam vs. Hello Kitty collaboration that has turned Sanrio's favorite feline into a Mobile Suit.
