Many found their sandwich and breakfast world turned upside down when Japanese chocolate company Bourbon introduced them to sliced chocolate. Now Bourbon is building on the popularity of the versatile chocolate slices with a new "Easy Cooking" series that not only reintroduced the sliced chocolate with a tastier formula, but sliced tuna mayonnaise, mentaiko (spicy cod roe), and apple butter!
The series consists of "sheet like condiments" that are can be quickly and conveniently applied to bread then toasted, but depending on the flavor, can be used in a variety of inventive ways with pastries and pastas.
The first flavor is tuna mayo or tuna mayonnaise, which while a very popular rice ball flavor in Japan, is also enjoyed as a toast topping and found in bakery treats.
The second slice of mayo is a mixture of mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and mayonnaise. The sauce can be an acquired taste, but diehards swear by it. Bourbon recommends letting it melt over a hot pasta dish, where mentaiko mayo is often found.
The Easy Cooking series also comes with the return of the popular chocolate slices, this time featuring a new recipe with a rich buttery taste.
Joining the standard sliced chocolate are sheets of apple butter white chocolate sheets.
The Easy Cooking sliced chocolate and slice mayonnaise sheets will go on sale throughout Japan starting March 2nd in packages of 5 and 4, respectively.
