Old fashioned cream soda floats are a menu staple of Japan's Showa era coffee shops, and to this day are still enjoyed at such shops as a way of looking back on the nostalgia and charm of the "good 'ol days" while enjoying a vintage dining atmosphere.
This summer, Tokyo's Sake Bar Kuranoya is making sure sake lovers can get in on the retro beverage fun, serving up dessert cocktails that combine seasonal sake, frozen fruit, and cream soda floats fro a refreshing treat.
Four types of syrup are available: green apple, pink grapefruit, passion fruit, and blue curacao. They can be mixed with any preferred available sake, but the restaurant recommends the summer seasonal "Haneya SHINE" from Toyama and "19 Contrail 19" from Nagano to bring out the flavor of the cream soda floats.
