Japanese Cat Treat Turns 3-Month-Old Kitten into Ferocious Beast
Heart Bread Antique Bakery's cat-shaped Neko Neko Shokupan (“neko” is “cat” in Japanese, and “shokupan” refers to fluffy, white bread) popularity in Japan continues to truck on. The hit feline-themed bread has spawned spinoffs such as watermelon flavors, as well as cat-shaped cheesecake and mini-cheesecake tarts using the king of cheeses.
Now a eXcafe in Kyoto's Gion district will be serving up a new flavor the cat-shaped bread as the center piece of a traditional Japanese breakfast.
The set features the new tri-colored calico cat inspired bread, which combines caramel, black cocoa, and plain flavors. Customers can toast the bread to their liking on a small shichirin charcoal grill and then apply anko red bean paste, butter, and whipped cream to their cat bread (and make a face, as seen below). The set also comes with mitarashi dango as a dessert, as well as coffee and tea options.
The calico cat bread Japanese breakfast will be served at eXcafe's Gion location starting October 5th, for 1,380 yen.
