Tokyo cafe Egg & Spuma have held many legendarily kawaii collaborations over the years, thanks to their association with character creators Sanrio. These cute pop-up events have returned this year with adorable afternoon teas, and even Halloween treats, inspired by the company’s super popular characters.
But the adorable eats don't stop after Halloween, since there's a new menu starting from November. This event is named after Sanrio’s monthly publication, ‘Ichigo Shinbun’, which could be translated as 'Strawberry Newspaper'. The magazine is celebrating its 45th anniversary and this special collaboration cafe will mark the occasion.
Rather than just focus on one character, the menu features a whole range of different Sanrio creations, so will surely appeal to any fan of cute Japanese characters.
The cafe will offer up various favourites such as the afternoon tea set, a pink My Melody Stew and many more. The menu will also change half way through, so watch out for when your favourite character will appear!
Given the current situation, some people prefer takeout rather than dining in, and many restaurants and cafes in Japan are responding to this trend with special takeout menu items. For Egg & Spuma’s cute creations, they’ve come up with a range of sweet drinks each inspired by, and featuring, three of Sanrio’s most recognisable faces.
There’s a Hello Kitty strawberry milk (1050 yen) which comes in an adorable pink colour, decorated with strawberries and the feline icon herself. For Cinnamoroll fans there’s a sky blue ‘milky and refreshing’ beverage (1100 yen) decorated with a cherry as well as the character. Lastly, Pompompurin is the star of a caramel pudding milk drink (1080 yen) which is finished off with some cookies.
Customers will also be treated to a super cute coaster as a free gift when ordering off the collaboration menu. There’s eight designs featuring various characters and you will receive one at random.
This cafe will open from 1st November in Egg & Spuma which can be found on the 8th floor of Shinjuku Lumine Est, Tokyo. Check out the full menu with prices on their website.
