New Japanese Kit Kats Are Full Of Yuzu Citrus Sake Flavor

Maybe you've heard of it; maybe you haven't. Either way, yuzu is a citrus fruit that looks like something halfway between a lemon and a small grapefruit. It is tart to the taste, so it often finds its way into various foodstuffs or desserts rather than eaten as a typical fruit. In recent years, the fruit has grown in popularity and become something of a delicacy in culinary circles.
Despite the name, grape Japan is an equal opportunity publisher. We’ve covered the small, yellow fruit as it found its way into cakes and alcoholic beverages. For those who just can’t get enough, there are even yuzu sake kit kat bars.
A yuzu bath
However, yuzu has an appeal that reaches beyond the kitchen. As you likely know, sauna and hot spring culture are quintessential to the Japanese identity. Residents here often soak in a hot bath at night as they wind-down before bedtime. After a particularly stressful day, it's not uncommon to throw in some bath salts for an especially serene soak.
And as manga artist Papa Atama (@nonnyakonyako) recently covered in a post, worn-down Japanese people—and even capybaras—also sometimes add yuzu to their bathwater. While soaking with fresh fruit may seem a little out of the ordinary, yuzu adds a pleasant fragrance which is thought to be good for handling stress or recovering from a cold. Check out this manga by the artist of himself and two sons enjoying a yuzu bath to see for yourself:
