Japanese doughnut chain Floresta call their creations ‘nature doughnuts’ because they are completely organic and handmade, with no artificial flavours or colouring added. The company started in Nara prefecture, and has now spread to the whole of Japan after exploding in popularity.
But they are also famous for their particularly cute doughnuts, sometimes taking on the form of instantly recognisable characters.
They often collaborate with Sanrio on completely edible versions of their iconic characters like Hello Kitty and Pompompurin. But for their latest offering, the character chosen is Shaun the Sheep, from British studio Aardman Animations.
Shaun the Sheep is fairly popular in Japan, even inspiring his own cafe in Tokyo. While he may not be a Japanese character, he’s still decidedly kawaii enough for this fluffy doughnut tribute. The base is a classic, organic Floresta doughnut, and his wooly coat is made from coconut, with almond ears.
This sheepish treat will be on sale from 7th to 29th August 2021, and it will cost 486 yen (takeout price). It can only be found in certain branches of Floresta and the store list can be found online. The Shaun the Sheep doughnut can also be ordered from their online store.
