Wagashi, or traditional Japanese sweets, are known not only for their many delicious flavors, but pleasing aesthetic. While traditional confectionery, their coloring and ingredients lend themselves to being used to create sweets that can artistically reproduce animals and even anime characters in the form of sweets.
Masaaki Miyake (@beniyamiyake) does just that at his sweets store, Gogashi Beniya Miyake, where he makes what are called "second generation wagashi." The talented and artistic wagashi maker often crafts creative and delicious sweets, such as these adorable ducks:
Miyake's latest set of wagashi applies that same artistic sense to nerikiri, a mochi-like confectionary made of sugar, starch syrup, and rice flour that is often cut and molded into items that reflect the season that are usually very color. In this case, Miyake chose to take advantage of the colorful sweets by creating these adorable parakeet wagashi!

The set of nerikiri perfectly takes advantage of the many colors of parakeets, and uses the round shape of the confectionery to create some adorably bubbly birds. As you can imagine, many on Twitter are impressed with the cute sweets and putting in an order at Miyake's online store, although are understandably conflicted about eating them.
