Japanese Illustrator Applies Different Styles Of Popular Anime To Disney Princesses
Wagashi, meaning traditional Japanese sweets, can come in a wide range of shapes, colours, and flavours. This even includes some impressively detailed tributes to popular characters.
‘Tabemasu’ is a sweets brand that excels when it comes to these character-inspired wagashi, and they’ve released offerings based on famous figures such as Hello Kitty and Rilakkuma, and even featured anime protagonists such as Tanjiro from Demon Slayer.
Another anime favourite they’ve taken on is Detective Conan (also known as Case Closed). This latest trio includes Detective Conan himself, as well as Rei Furuya, and even a version of the iconic ‘Criminal’ figure that appears in the show.
This shady character is used as the stand-in for a culprit when their real identity is still unknown, and he’s appearing in a Tabemasu lineup for the first time.
Each one has plenty of recognisable details such as Conan’s instantly recognisable bowtie, and they all have different flavoured fillings. Conan has a custard filling, Rei has a strawberry filling, and The Criminal is chocolate.
All of these sweets are made from nerikiri, a type of wagashi made from white bean paste and mochi dough. Nerikiri is easily coloured, moulded, and carved, therefore it is often used to create detailed confections.
These inquisitive treats can be found from today, in the chilled dessert section of 7-Eleven convenience stores in Japan for 278 yen each.
