Pui Pui Molcar Drives Home Stop-motion Anime with Fuzzy Characters and Black Humor
Wagashi is a term referring to many types of traditional Japanese sweets. They come in a wide range of shapes, colours, and flavours, but did you know that this includes sweets shaped like popular characters?
A sweets brand that excels when it comes to detailed character wagashi is ‘Tabemasu’ from Bandai. They’ve released offerings based on famous figures such as Hello Kitty, and even dove into the world of anime with Demon Slayer creations.
Their latest release is based on the surprise worldwide sensation Pui Pui Molcar. Potato and Shiromo are the two characters represented this time, and each one has a different flavour filling. Potato is custard flavour, while Shiromo is milk flavour. Care has been taken to recreate the cute roundness of each guinea pig car.
All of these sweets are made from nerikiri, which is made from white bean paste and mochi dough. Nerikiri is easily coloured, moulded, and carved, so it is often used to create detailed confections such as these.
They are sold separately and each one costs 285 yen.
These adorable treats can currently be found in the chilled dessert section of Lawson convenience stores across Japan for a limited time (not including Lawson 100 or Natural Lawson).
