Can you believe that beloved video game character Kirby is coming up to his 30th anniversary? He still looks as plump and young as the day he burst onto the video game scene back in 1992.

There’s a few fun events planned in Japan to help fans celebrate this momentous occasion, including special menu items at the Kirby Cafe like a birthday cake.

One extra cute and sweet offering for this event is an assortment of adorable wagashi from Tabemasu, a brand that specialises in traditional Japanese sweets shaped like popular characters.

For Kirby’s 30th anniversary set there’s eight different expressions to choose from, and each Kirby comes with a Warp Star to sit on.

The Kirby sweets are made of mochi, the perfect food to express his round and squishy form, and the Warp Star is made of nerikiri. Nerikiri is a traditional Japanese sweet made from mochi flour and white bean paste, and it’s especially easy to mould and carve into detailed shapes.

The Kirby mochi has a strawberry flavour filling to match his pink colour, and the Warp Star has a chocolate filling.

These sets will go on sale in branches of Lawson in Japan from 26th April and will cost 353 yen.
