Spirited Away In Winter: A Japanese Hot Spring Town That Feels Frozen In A Bygone Era
Studio Ghibli is known for creating such arresting fantasy worlds that fans are desperate to experience parts of them for themselves. Some do so by recreating the food seen in the movies, or buying official merchandise based on items straight out of the animated scenes.
Those who visit the Toshio Suzuki and Ghibli exhibition, which is currently going on in Kyoto, can transform their bath time into a pampering session at the Spirited Away bathhouse. This is because Ghibli has enlisted the help of the company behind ‘jiwajiwa’ bath herbs, to create a concoction inspired by the film’s iconic bath scene.
In the movie, one of the spirits who comes to the bathhouse appears covered in sludge, and he gets a very effective herbal bath, thanks to heroine Chihiro, revealing his true form.
The blend formulated by jiwajiwa is called ‘Innumerable Hot Springs’ and contains one hundred percent natural ingredients, including four components used since ancient times. These are Kuma bamboo grass, yuzu, Canadian goldenrod, and coarse tea.
So if you want to be spirited away during your bath time to the world of Studio Ghibli, these bath herbs can be picked up at the currently running Toshio Suzuki and Ghibli exhibition until 19th June 2022. The exhibition will also be appearing in Tokyo later in the year.
