Scroll is Melbourne’s first Thai cold-plate ice creamery, a pop-up shop selling rolled-up ice cream inspired by street vendors in Thailand.
Yup, you read that right. Rolled-up ice cream.
The ice cream scrolls are made from a milk and cream base poured onto cold metal plates (cold as in -20 degrees celsius, or -4 degrees fahrenheit) which is then flattened, scraped, and rolled up after chopping in any add-ins. They’re served in cups, which fits about four or five of these pretty scrolls.
Scroll isn’t rolling ice cream just because it looks fun, either. By using the cold metal plates to prepare the ice cream, they are able to create ice cream that produces smaller ice molecules, which basically means that it naturally turns out smoother and creamier without the need for additional fat and emulsifiers.
They have a lot of great flavors too, like Nutter Butter (Tim Tams, Nutella, and peanut butter) and New York Cheesecake, which is made with an entire slice of cheesecake.
If you’re vegan, you can still enjoy the delicious ice cream scrolls with their ice cream made with a coconut cream base.
And if you’ve just finished working out but still want to indulge, they even have a “post-workout” option where they blend protein powder into your scrolls!
The Scroll pop-up store will be available until February 2016, so you’ll still have plenty of time to head on over to Melbourne (or book a flight if you have to) and try it out.
