Knowing you’ll be spending the entire day at home alone isn’t reason to throw on whatever or stay in your pajamas; quite contrarily, there’s no better reason for you to wear super comfortable loungewear that will let you relax while looking like you’re wearing traditional Japanese garb.
Inspired by the fashionistas of the Taishō Period (1912-1926) in Japan, loungewear maker MOCOLLE has established a crowdfunding project for hakama-style outfits to wear at home. Japan is no stranger to elaborate cosplay loungewear, as we’ve previously seen with indoor outfits like the fairy tale pajamas, winter schoolgirl uniform room wear, and even sailor uniform loungewear that doubles as a warm kotatsu.

The hakama outfit mimics the same kind of traditional outfits worn mostly by schoolgirls in the Taishō Period. During this era, there was an influx of modern western influences, which gave birth to bolder, brighter styles and pairings of traditional kimono outfits with western accessories. This fusion of styles is commonly known as “Taishō Roman,” and this hakama costume is representative of this particular time in Japan’s long history.

The crowdfunding campaign has already proved successful and offers hakama loungewear in purple and red. Both are adorned with the traditional Yagasuri pattern, a popular motif of arrow feathers used in the Taishō Period. They can be worn all day at home and are also designed to be comfortable to wear as fancy pajamas.

For patrons, the stylish loungewear is scheduled to arrive sometime in June. You can still pitch in from the Campfire site and be one step closer to cosplaying at home as a Taishō Roman schoolgirl.
