Word has been going around that ramen fanatics in Hokkaido are having ramen for lunch and dessert at ramen restaurant Yukitohana. Located in Furano, Hokkaido, the restaurant is famous among locals for their impeccable niboshi (dried sardines) ramen, but it is not this specialty that Instagrammers have been raving about. Instead, what's gotten the attention of ramen lovers all over Japan is their soy sauce-flavored soft serve ice cream, that at first glance looks like a mini portion of ramen served in an ice cream cone.
The Ramen Soft Serve is made of vanilla soft serve ice cream blended with a dash of soy sauce. The shoyu flavor is mild and not overpowering, adding a pleasant saltiness to the sweetness of the ice cream. To make it even more unique, each cone is topped with a real naruto (kamaboko, or cured fish paste) and pretzel sticks meant to look like chopsticks.
While non-residents of Hokkaido will have to travel to the northern prefecture to get a bite of this glorious ramen ice cream, reviews for both the dessert and the actual ramen promise that this culinary experience is well worth traveling for.
