These Adorable Animal Shaped Japanese Sweets Are Not What They Appear

Last week McDonald's Japan asked customers to guess which Pokémon their new Pokémon McFlurry would be inspired by. Adventurous flavors and Pokémon combinations included Charmander Habanerno, Bulbasaur Broccoli, Gengar Purple Sweet Potato, Jigglypuff White Peach, and Squirtle Ramune as possible options. The leading "vote" getter and actual result shouldn't come as a shock (well, maybe a little) to Pokémon fans, however. It seems plans all along were to model the Pokémon McFlurry after the popular franchise's flagship Pokémon with a Pikachu Chocolate Banana Pokémon McFlurry.

Pikachu was a likely winner from the start, being easily the most popular and marketable Pokémon in the series, as well as promising a Chocolate Banana flavor that is very popular in the Japanese summer. The Pikachu Chocolate Banana Pokémon McFlurry will replicate the electric Pikachu's color scheme and the summer treat's flavor with a mix of soft serve, cacao chocolate sauce, and fruit banana puree. It'll even come in six different cups, showing off the various expressions of Pikachu.

The Pikachu Chocolate Banana Pokémon McFlurry will be released for a limited time in Japan starting July 14th and ending on August 10th, for 290 yen.
We're still hoping for Charmander Habanero, however.
