Japan’s strengths when it comes to food are numerous. Their traditional cuisine is world famous and many of their eccentric innovations become viral hits. But as you know, they are not big on dairy. And we all know that cheese is amazing. Many expats living in Japan lament resigning themselves to a life of slightly sub-standard cheese.
Tokyoite cheese lovers from all over the world can rejoice! For 11th of November is Cheese Day in Japan (apparently), making this weekend the perfect time to host the 26th annual cheese festival in Tokyo.
The event is free entry and includes cheese recipe contests, talk shows and obviously, a lot of cheese tasting including both Japanese and imported varieties.
New Zealand dairy brand Fonterra are even offering a virtual reality experience which is somehow related to cheese.
A look at the Instagram photos from last year's event also reveal that there may be an appearance by a slightly surreal looking mascot. Well, what event can't benefit from one of those?
