Sanrio’s iconic characters can be found all over Japan in many different forms. From My Melody themed doughnuts, to Gudetama sneakers and even a Hello Kitty-adorned hotel room, if you love cute characters, you can take part in all manner of Sanrio-inspired experiences.
During December, fans and lovers of all things pastel can get their mitts on possibly the cutest ice cream and frozen drinks ever dreamed up in Cold Stone Creamery branches all over Japan.
Three limited time only menu items have been announced, all based around Sanrio’s popular characters called ‘Little Twin Stars’. The duo, known individually as Kiki and Lala, were born on December 24th on Omoiyari Star, according to Sanrio’s lore, making them the perfect representatives for this month.
The first sweet treat is the Kiki and Lala Dreamy White Winter (788 yen plus tax), a new Cold Stone creation which uses rich milk ice cream as a base with white chocolate chips, pastel coloured marshmallows and whipped cream. The ultimate kawaii ice cream is finished off with pretty yellow chocolate stars and a chocolate Kiki and Lala. It’s served in a colour snow waffle bowl which is lined with white and then scattered with pink and blue sprinkles.
Moving onto the beverages, there’s one to represent each of the pastel siblings. Kiki’s Fluffy Blue Vanilla (649 yen plus tax) has a frozen base of blue vanilla, with a generous topping of French vanilla ice cream sprinkled with pastel marshmallows and chocolate stars.
Lala’s Berry Cheese Peace Yoghurt (649 yen plus tax) has a frozen pink yoghurt base with cheesecake ice cream on top. The chocolate stars make another appearance but this time there’s the fruity addition of strawberries. Both the drinks comes in original Kiki and Lala decorated cups.
If you want a frozen taste of Little Twin Star’s whimsical world, these limited time only menu items are available from 2nd December until 25th (except the Shinjuku Lumine branch which will start selling them from 19th December).
