One of Japan's favorite and affordable traditional sweets are dango 団子, dumplings made of mochiko glutinous rice, and prepared with various flavors, toppings and seasonings.
Among dango, mitarashi dango みたらし団子 are one of the most famous varieties. Skewered three to five apiece onto bamboo sticks and slathered with a sweet soy sauce glaze, they draw their name from the Kamo Mitarashi Tea House in Kyoto.

If you love mitarashi dango but don't want to bother carrying around several skewers, why not grab one giant one and be on your way? Starting May 28th at Lawson Store 100, the "100-yen shop" version of the Lawson convenience store chain, you'll be able to do just that. Their 「渾身の一本!どでかいみたらし団子」konshin no ippon! dodekai mitarashi dango, which translates as "Our finest effort! One huge mitarashi dango skewer," replaces their usual set of four skewers of four dumplings with one skewer supporting three huge dumplings.

As you can see in this picture below, their normal mitarashi dango looks downright diminutive by comparison. In fact, this massive mitarashi dango weighs three times as much as its normal version.

Measuring 5 cm (2") wide and 12 cm (4.7") long, and weighing in at 180 grams (6.3 ounces), this mitarashi dango is a meal on a stick. If they made it any larger, you wouldn't be able to hold the skewer!
