Though Halloween isn’t a native holiday to Japan, the country still manages to outdo everyone when it comes to adorable spooky treats for the season.
Fans of Sanrio’s character creations will be happy to know that a new pop-up cafe menu will be arriving in Tokyo this autumn, with some of the cutest character-themed items for Halloween. Starring My Melody and Kuromi, it will be taking place in the Egg & Spuma Cafe in Shinjuku.
Despite Kuromi’s mischievous appearance, this tasty lineup is all treats no tricks. For a main meal there’s a super cute pink omelette curry, prominently featuring Kuromi’s cheeky expression.
On the dessert menu, My Melody sits on top of these impressive soufflé pancakes.
And there’s elaborate beverages inspired by various characters.
But the piece de resistance is surely the afternoon tea set. This tiered stand, resplendent in kawaii-spookiness, has everything you need for a seasonally appropriate teatime. There’s a witchy Kuromi centre stage, surrounded by bat cookies, ghostly gyuhi, and various other devilish desserts.
Patrons will also be treated to a random coaster as a gift with four possible adorable designs.
The current collaboration between Egg & Spuma and Sanrio is ongoing until 15th September (check out our previous article to see the menu!) and the Halloween revamp will start from 16th September and haunt the cafe until the big day, 31st October.
Egg & Spuma can be found on the 8th floor of Shinjuku Lumine Est, and more information can be found on the cafe’s website.
