Studio Ghibli and Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki has made his name on beloved anime films, but the iconic director often makes headlines for when he's not behind a storyboard, such as when he stood up to Harvey Weinstein with a samurai sword and was recently announced as the inaugural focus of the new Academy Museum.
Miyazaki, Studio Ghibli co-founder and producer Toshio Suzuki, and Goro Miyazaki (Hayao Miyazaki's son) are now delighting the internet with a new video that shows the anime trio visiting the famous Studio Ghibli Museum's Straw Hat Café. Charmingly, the Miyazaki humbly waits in line, picks up an order number and waits for it to be called. He then enjoys his meal and praises the staff for how delicious it is--never once giving off the vibe that he essentially runs the place.
The video was shared as a notice that Museum's cafe would be opening with a new menu and social distance protocol after a brief shutdown due to COVID-19. Suzuki remarks that the katsu sandwich is more delicious than it was before (the staff explains they've changed how they prepare the bread and meat), and Miyazaki very much enjoys his meal. One particularly funny moment comes when Miyazaki seems to waver over whether to order a cream soda float or not, but eventually cracks and finishes off his meal with one.
At the end of the video, Miyazaki seeks out the staff and thanks them for the meal.
