As a countermeasure to conditions caused by the spread of the novel coronavirus, many Japanese businesses have adopted telework models allowing their employees to work from home. This has of course led to a number of products intended to make telework easier on people, including privacy concentration tents, pajamas that resemble business wear, and even kotatsu designed for working from home.

Earlier in January, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government proposed another service to facilitate telework options following the declaration of a state of emergency: hotel rooms available for telework rental at just 500 yen per day of use.

The initiative, which provides a number of rental rooms in hotels located throughout the Tama region of Tokyo, is meant to give an easy teleworking option for those who may find it hard to concentrate due to their family living situation at home, as well as give an understandably lagging tourism industry a boost during the pandemic.

Eligibility is limited to those who live or work in Tokyo and are employed by private companies or businesses. The hours of operation are fixed, so if you are interested, please check here. A total of 100 rooms between 5 hotels are available for satellite office work with reservations available until March 20th.
