Eight years ago, the anime adaptation of Attack on Titan premiered, and Japan, along with the rest of the world was sent on a titan-fueled craze. Attack on Titan merchandise, commercials, collaborations, and events spread like wildfire across Japan, and with the much anticipated final season just on the horizon, the series is receiving a revival in its popularity all these years later.
With the already countless iterations of things inspired by Attack on Titan, it’s hard to come up with something that can still prove to be unexpected. But Coca-Cola Japan’s collaboration with The Nippon Foundation is one of those things we’ll admit we didn’t see coming: it’s a titan-shaped trash can with a wide-open mouth, made specifically for your bottles and cans.
The Attack on Titan trash can is a temporary installation that was created as a part of The Nippon Foundation’s “Umi to Nippon Project/CHANGE FOR THE BLUE” initiative. It is currently placed near Ōita Station, and can be used by anyone. It was installed next to other trash cans dedicated to the disposal of bottles and cans from vending machines.
The organizers are hoping to see if the difference in the trash can’s appearance has an effect on reducing improper disposal of non-vending machine trash. Its eye-catching design depicts the Smiling Titan, who played a pivotal role early on in the series.
If you want to see the titan for yourself, the trash can will be around until November 22, 2021, and can be found at 1-1-15 Kanaike-machi, Oita City. You can find more information about the project through its official web page.
