Tokyo Banana is often touted as the number one souvenir when it comes to sweets to bring back for those visiting Tokyo. The crowd-pleasing treat's classic form is banana and milk cream filled banana-shaped sponge cakes, but over the years has been evolved into Pikachu and Eevee Pokemon designs and flavors, as well as a premium Kit Kat flavor.
So you can imagine the surprise when the sweet souvenir king announced that their latest endeavor was to release a version of chūkaman (Chinese steamed buns), and in particular, curryman (curry filled Chinese steamed buns). Not only that, but the curryman live up to the brand name by bringing Tokyo Banana's signature sweet flavor to the mix.
Those jarred by the idea of a dessert curry need not fear, the Tokyo Banana Curryman aren't a totally sweet bun. They're filled with a special curry filling made with pork, beef, onions, and carrots. The sweet kick of Tokyo Banana comes into play in the actual buns, which are made using a blend of banana and butter melted into the dough to provide a mellow sweetness reminiscent of the popular cakes, as well extra chunky and fluffy texture.
The buns also feature the Tokyo Banana logo.
The Tokyo Banana Curryman will go on sale starting December 16th at the EXPASA Ebina SASTAR 2 shop, where you can also grab some Tokyo Banana soft serve ice cream.
