By now it comes as no surprise when Japanese cafes come out with a summer treat that's slightly out of the ordinary, especially when it involves a refreshing serving of ice cream. In fact, it is these unusual desserts that are often the most alluring, such as the sakura-flavored croissant ice cream cones and the unicorn taiyaki ice cream offered in New York. There was even that one time when Dominique Ansel Bakery Japan decided to serve their ice cream on an ear of corn:
Though the "Creme de la Corn" ice cream is back on the menu at Dominique Ansel Bakery Japan, bringing back a new flavor simply wasn't enough. That's why this year, they've released the What-a-Melon Soft Serve, an ice cream served in a fresh slice of watermelon. It's available exclusively at their Omotesando location, which makes for the perfect mid-day snack during a day spent venturing around the Tokyo area.
According to Dominique Ansel Bakery Japan, the What-a-Melon Soft Serve is a "slice of fresh-cut ripe watermelon with little chocolate seeds, filled with refreshing watermelon soft serve inside and a side of sea salt to sprinkle on top." It's the perfect dessert to devour in the heat, especially since watermelons are representative of the summer season in Japan.
