Today at 12pm, the 35th Sanrio Character Ranking award ceremony was streamed live on Sanrio's YouTube, Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Every year, Sanrio announces its most popular characters based on the results of entries submitted by fans online through its website, by postcard, and through entry forms submitted at Sanrio shops. Whereas analog entries were limited to Japan, submissions online included entries from all around the world, and the final results included ranking information from several countries.
Let's begin with the general total ranking:

As predicted, the dogs had their day today, as the three canine characters Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin and Pochacco took the coveted top three spots!
Cinnamoroll
At 1,387,152 votes, Cinnamoroll was the grand winner this year. It's the third time for Cinnamoroll to win the top spot, the last time being in 2018.

Pompompurin
Pompompurin snagged second place with 1,288,245 votes, marking the third consecutive year he landed in the top three.

Pochacco
Rounding out the top three was Pochacco, coming in at 1,013,927 votes, his first time in 26 years at 3rd place.

Yoshikitty (seen below accepting the Tanita award at today's ceremony), inspired by legendary rock band X Japan's Yoshiki, showed up prominently in the international rankings. Brits seem to be infatuated with Gudetama, and Agrettsuko ranked highly in the US and Brazil, perhaps due to the power of Netflix.
