Omurice, or omelette rice, is a Japanese café and diner favorite. The dish features an oval-like French style omelette that envelops seasoned fried rice and is usually served with a dollop of ketchup. It's particularly praised when made by an expert chef who can create the perfectly "fluffy" omelette, one that splits perfectly and opens up when cut. When this happens, it's almost as satisfying as eating the meal itself.
A group of elementary school kids in Japan were recently treated to that satisfaction in a video that has Twitter completely hypnotized with adorableness. The group of children are on a field trip to omurice specialty restaurant Santa, located in Okazaki city, Aichi prefecture. In the kitchen, they are watching omurice pro chef @omuraisupuro whip up a batch of the perfect omurice and then cut into it for the one shining moment all omelet foodies wait for.
However, because of their round yellow hats (which Japanese elementary school students wear for traffic safety and identification reasons) and the incredibly wowed "ooo's" and "ahhh's" they make when they see the perfect omelet revealed, many online have dubbed the children real life Minions from the Despicable Me franchise:
A combination of what looks like a sea of yellow heads and the high pitched voices of adorable awe make it an uncanny Minions resemblance. The video has exploded on Twitter, captivating many with a highly rewatchable of pure delight. Many commented on how it was watching a scene from a Minions movie, as well as recalling their own moment of wonder when they first saw the perfect omurice being cut into.
As you can see, Santa's omurice truly is the perfect shape.
And the children were very understandably left with their jaws dropped!
