One of the prettiest and intricately prepared kinds of wagashi, or traditional Japanese sweets, is nerikiri. Nerikiri are a mochi-like confectionary made of sugar, starch syrup, and rice flour that is then carefully cut and molded into items that embody the season (such as cherry blossoms) and bursting with color. They're really as much a pleasure to look at as they are to eat!

Expert wagashi maker Masaaki Miyake (Twitter, Instagram) is great at making nerikiri even more fun to look at, crafting traditional sweets that might actually be too cute to eat such as adorable seal and penguin dumplings and colorful and bubbly parakeet sweets at his store Gogashi Beniya Miyake.

Miyake continues to set the bar for sweets that will have you conflicted about eating them with a batch of adorable duck nerikiri. The mochi treats feature cute ducks and ducklings in a variety of poses, including some lovingly cuddling each other!

Each nerikiri looks like a duckling you'd just as soon pick up and cuddle, but they are actually delicately made sweets filled with high grade melt-in-your-mouth grated Japanese yam. Miyake has crafted the now viral duck sweets in poses that show them sleeping, cuddling, and simply staring up at you with their darling little eyes. He even made some cute duck butts!
