With a plethora of bars, pubs, and izakaya gastropubs, you can be sure to find ways of getting happily inebriated when you visit Shibuya. However, for various reasons, there are times when you might prefer a non-alcoholic or low-alcoholic beverage instead. Fortunately, establishments catering to the more sober lifestyle are on the rise in Tokyo and other major cities in Japan.

In June 2022, the SUMADORI Corporation, jointly established by Asahi Breweries, Ltd. and Dentsu Digital Inc., opened the "SUMADORI-BAR SHIBUYA" in Shibuya Center-Gai.

At SUMADORI-BAR SHIBUYA, you can enjoy more than 100 drinks with 0%, 0.5%, and 3.0% alcohol content. You can choose the drink that best suits your lifestyle, mood, and tastes.

The bar offers a wide variety of drinks, such as hard craft lemonade and hard craft cola, as well as drinks such as Beery, a beer-taste drink with an alcohol content of 0.5%, Bispa, a low-alcohol sparkling drink, and VIVA, a hard seltzer with an alcohol content of 3.0%.

The word SUMADORI (スマドリ in Japanese) is a portmanteau of スマート (sumāto | "smart") and ドリンク (dorinku | "drink") in the katakana syllabary, with the notion that choosing non- or low-alcohol drinks can be a smart choice for a healthy lifestyle but also the idea that "smart drinking" lets people in various circumstances, no matter why they choose the cut down on alcohol, to mingle and enjoy a good time in good company.

The theme of "mingling" is reflected in both the design of the bar, with its marbled pattern of multiple colors behind the counter, as well as the mocktails served at SUMADORI-BAR SHIBUYA.

For example, one of their signature drinks is "Marbling Rain," which uses their homemade craft lemonade, gin, and a puff of cotton candy colored with natural food coloring, which melts in a colorful rainshower when you pour Wilkinson soda water over it to complete your drink, creating a beautiful marbling effect.
