93-Year-Old Japanese Grandma Revitalized By Her Granddaughter’s Handmade Clothes
When Jeanean Thomas took her daughter to Churchill Park in Cambridge, Ontario to learn to skateboard, she was apprehensive about the park being populated with teenage boys skateboarding in a group. Her daughter felt intimidated and Thomas herself thought that there might be a confrontation when one of the boys approached her daughter. Instead, she founder herself inspired by an encounter that moved her to write this touching letter on twitter:
In and of itself, it's a simple thank you note--one that has gone viral and received a lot of praise. However, it's the circumstances of the letter that are worth learning from. The apprehension Thomas had was soon dispelled in a classic "don't judge a book by its cover" lesson, and the attention the boy is getting online for being kind and inclusive, despite being ridiculed by his friends is telling of what we all should truly value.
Everyone starts somewhere, and most of the time they are not quite confident enough to take that first step. All it takes is a simple act of kindness--showing someone the same consideration you would be happy to receive yourself--that helps us all take that step forward, together.
