Jun from Jun’s Kitchen isn’t a chef, but he’s known on YouTube for making creative dishes with his feline sidekick Kohaku. This time, Jun has come up with a recipe that’s perfect for spring, or any other time of the year when you’re yearning to see beautiful Japanese sakura trees.
Sakura Tree Tempura
As per usual, Jun and Kohaku head out to buy ingredients for their next dish, Sakura Tree Tempura — a standard tempura bowl with a springtime twist.

Making the sakura tree
Now for the big finale — the sakura tree! To top this delicious dish off, he takes a batch of somen noodles, some batter, and food coloring to create a tree full of sakura leaves. It looks like an elaborate touch, but it’s surprisingly simple to execute (though you might need a few tries to get it just right).

Behold, the final and breathtaking result. It’s truly a work of art, and is reminiscent of the early onset of the spring season. You can almost smell the scent of the river, and see little fish splashing in the water under a foliage of sakura flowers.
And even though we would feel quite a bit of remorse at devouring something so beautiful, it takes Jun zero effort to scarf it all down.
