While adventurously flavored Kit Kats may reign supreme, Japanese beauty and skin care products are growing as a popular souvenir for foreign visitors to take back home with them. Outside of promising to restore youthful looks by using local ingredients such as sake and tea seed oil, Japanese beauty masks these days now feature the looks of popular characters such as Godzilla and Kayako from Ju-On, so you can show some style while protecting your good looks.

The latest character-themed beauty mask from Asunaro-sya's Gotochi Kitty, however, may be closer to the gigantic creepy felt cat heads we saw earlier in the year, as the new product is designed as a ultra realistic cat-themed beauty masks that straddle the line between cute and terrifying!

It's part of their "Narikiri face pack" series, or "totally become" series, this time featuring the model of a cat. The series puts emphasis on "totally becoming" the theme of the mask, and so the design features a very realistic feline face, with special attention paid to the eyes and nose. Outside of skin care purposes, they can be rather fun to just goof around with and take pics of yourself as a cat monster.

Of course, as seen before, when people actually put on these themed beauty masks, the results can be very startling. Nonetheless, the kitty beauty masks contain hyaluronic acid and collagen to provide skin moistness and firmness. The maker also made the masks rose-scented, citing the healing and calming affect that cats have on the people around them--so that's apparently replicated by providing a pleasant fragrance.

There are four different cat sheets, but the one mask contained in each package is random.

Starting May 2nd, these realistic cat beauty masks will be available around Japan for 350 yen a pack (each contains one mask). They will be sold at all major drug stores, oddity and book shop Village Vanguard, and Don Quijote, Japan's major discount chain store and emporium for just about anything. If you are looking to get your hands on them from outside of Japan, your best bet is to keep an eye out on Amazon and Rakuten, which sometimes stock character masks. Although we recommend proxy services like Japan Trends shop, which usually picks up on the latest items quickly.
