On July 12th in Tokyo, a fan event for popular manga and anime series Fullmetal Alchemist showed off the third and latest teaser trailer for the upcoming live action film adaptation, which has provided us with a better look at the film's character visuals beyond the two protagonists. Coupled with new character posters, we have a pretty good insight to the aesthetics of the film.
While we had already seen Yamada Ryosuke as Edward Elric and the new CGI version of his younger brother Al, the trailer gives us a better look at Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell, Ryuta Sato as Captain Maes Hughes, Dean Fujioka as Roy Mustang, and Misako Renbutsu as Riza Hawkeye. The trailer also gives a look at the villains of the series, showing Kanata Hongo as Envy, Yasuko Matsuyuki as Lust, and Shinji Uchiyama as Gluttony.
In regards to adapting the source material and the cast's ethnicity, film Director Fumihiko Sori has said "I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it's a style that doesn't represent a specific race or country...there will never be a scene in which a character says something that would identify him/her as Japanese."
Warner Brothers will release the Fullmetal Alchemist live action film in Japan on December 1st, where original manga author Hiromu Arakawa will be providing a "special-edition episode" comic as a bonus release.
