In the past, cola has been a pretty big benefactor of Japan's love of seasonal and limited edition goods. Standouts like Sakura Pepsi, region-specific Coca-Cola bottles, and Christmas Cake Pepsi are all recent twists on the fizzy drink that tie into Japanese ingredients, areas, and social traditions. Now they can add a "world-first" to their list in the form of a limited edition Peach Coca-Cola.

While it's not clear if the flavor will expand to overseas markets, a company Press Release makes the many cultural ties Japan has to peaches clear. In Japanese mythology, the fruit has the power to dispel evil, and is closely associated with the Hinamatsuri, or Girls’ Day in Japan. The event is also called the Peach Festival (Momo no Sekku). Along with displaying ornate dolls, houses and shops decorate themselves in pink, and celebrate peach flowers which are said to officially usher in the Spring. This likely factored into company research results that say January-March is the season with peak demand for peach-flavored goods.

The pink label features an appetizing peach, surrounded by bubbles, as if the fruit itself was dropped right into the cola bottle. It's said to have a sweet and refreshing flavor, and to have a particularly strong peach fragrance. The limited edition Peach Coca-Cola will be available from January 22nd, with 500ml and 280ml bottles available. The smaller bottle will be limited to vending machines.
