FamilyMart celebrates 40th anniversary with indulgent gateau chocolat frappe
In recent years, the Japanese food boom in Europe, the U.S., and other countries has led to a renewed interest in Japanese food and tea culture, and people are enjoying not only beverages but also a variety of so-called "matcha sweets." In particular, sweets that combine the best of Japanese and Western tastes have been attracting attention recently, both here in Japan and abroad.
With this in mind, AEON Retail Inc. has planned and developed a new dessert that blends a special Japanese tea with the recently-popular "cheese terrine" (or "cheesecake terrine," as it is also known), and will make it available at 400 AEON and AEON Style stores in Honshu and Shikoku from Thursday, May 6th, 2021.

This dessert uses a new brand of sencha (green tea), Tanzawa Ōyama-cha 丹沢大山茶 from Kanagawa Prefecture, produced and manufactured by Mr. Ken Sasaki 佐々木健, a tea master who was awarded the highest honor, the Gold Medal, in the World Green Tea Contest sponsored by the World Green Tea Association.
In addition to the fresh aroma and pleasantly mild astringency of Tanzawa Ōyama tea, you can also enjoy the refreshing tartness and sweetness of cheese, making this a smooth, rich, and authentic blend of Japanese and Western dessert flavors.
It's the perfect sweet to share with your family for Mother's Day or to enjoy while watching a movie or reading a book for those who are spending more time at home during the ongoing pandemic.

About Tanzawa Ōyama Tea
Tanzawa Ōyama tea is a flavorful green tea made from high-quality tea leaves. The tea plantation is meticulously operated, with everything from soil conditions to fertilization plans managed using Ken Sasaki's original "Twelve Classifications Tea Production Method."
Moreover, Tanzawa Ōyama tea is a sustainable product. The land on which the tea plantation is built was once abandoned but then restored, addressing a growing problem in many parts of Japan in which valuable farmland is abandoned for various socioeconomic reasons. This is part of a project to restore abandoned tea plantations in the Yadoriki 寄 area of Matsuda Town 松田町, Kanagawa Prefecture, and represents an integrated approach from production to processing to commercialization.
