Historic Kyoto sweets maker gets into Halloween spirit with ghoulish traditional sweets



When it comes to wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets, confectionery master Masaaki Miyake (Twitter, Instagram) really knows how to craft a treat that may be too cute to eat. At his store, Gogashi Beniya Miyake, the sweets chef cooks up creative character inspired desserts like seal and penguin dumplings and Pikmin mochi.
Now Miyake is turning his talents towards dorayaki--a popular Japanese dessert that consists of two pancake-like castella patties filled with red bean jam. The chef's adorable twist on the cakes is one that's sure to please cat lovers, as each comes with a grilled stamp of cat paw prints!
Miyake's dorayaki each come with a trail of cat paw prints that he brands on one by one, making it look as if a kitty has stepped into the dough before they were cooked. Dorayaki always tastes good, but the simple yet adorable paw prints should makes these cakes sell like...hot cakes.
