The “Curious” Culture Of Hanami: Picnicking Under The Sakura Trees

Japan is rife with earthquakes, and those of us who’ve lived here long enough usually know what to do when one strikes.
This hamster, however, didn’t. So he did the best thing he could think of.
Twitter user @mnt0217 was playing with her hamster when the earthquake hit, and although it wasn’t big, she briefly looked around the room to make sure nothing was falling off the shelves. But when she looked back down, her beloved pet was nowhere to be found.
That is, until she discovered he had found safety inside a tiny glass bottle.

Apparently he had found comfort inside the bottle, and eventually managed to recompose himself and scurry out once he was over the shock of the earthquake.
Moral of the story: if you live in Japan with a hamster, have some glass bottles ready.
