Coloring books for adults have gained popularity for their aesthetic as well as stress-relieving qualities, giving artists at heart the chance to complete gorgeous works of art, even if drawing isn't their forte. Usually following a particular theme, adult coloring books range from that of flowers, animals, and even series like Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. But a new Japanese-style coloring book has joined the bunch, released as a beautiful kabuki-themed coloring book by Japanese manga artist Junko Suzuki.

Containing 76 illustrations drawn in the style of Edo Japan, the Kabuki Coloring Book is a stunningly detailed collection of drawings for at-home artists to breathe life into with the colors of their choice. To ensure that the details of each drawing were true to the real life art of kabuki, Suzuki worked with kabuki actor Ichikawa Somegorō VII, who helped make certain that the wigs, clothing, poses, and other props were all accurately drawn.
Although simply reveling in the illustrations is enough to get a greater understanding of the kabuki culture, the book also contains sections introducing the various Edo-style patterns and colors often used during the era, and explanations on how to draw kumadori, a type of stage makeup worn by the actors.

Those who are already well-versed in kabuki might also recognize notable scenes from famous plays like Kanjinchō, Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura (Yoshitsune and the Thousand Trees), and Chūshingura which have been reenacted on paper as gorgeous illustrations.
The Kabuki Coloring Book for adults is available on Amazon Japan for 1,400 yen (US $12).
