Domino's Japan has quite the pizza portfolio of unusual toppings. In recent years they've released a boba pizza topped with tapioca pearls, a triple mayo and double garlic pizza, and even an initially prickly but savory tsundere pizza.

The chain's latest release cuts down on excess, however, and even the pie portion itself. On May 19th, Domino's Japan will release a new lineup of "Pizza Rice Bowls", designed under the concept of meshing pizza with Japanese food.

Domino's Japan calls the new Pizza Rice Bowls "the ultimate combination of pizza and Japanese food", as it provides donburi (rice bowl) way to enjoy pizza toppings. The bowls use butter-flavored Japanese rice made by adding the aroma and richness of chicken bouillon to basic butter, which the company claims is a better fit for pizza toppings than plain white rice. The rice is then topped with 100% mozzarella cheese, along with the toppings of any of 7 different pizzas.
