Sanrio are a company known worldwide for their cute characters such as Cinnamoroll, My Melody, Kuromi, and more. But surely their most popular creation is Hello Kitty, an icon of kawaii culture.
So when Japanese pudding specialty shop Pastel started doing some amazingly adorable collaborations with Sanrio, bringing out dessert lineups inspired by Cinnamoroll and Pompompurin, we knew it was just a matter of time before the queen herself made an appearance.
Their sweet Hello Kitty collection includes two types of pudding and a roll-cake. In Japan, a pudding (or ‘purin’ in Japanese pronunciation) is a specific type of cold custard dessert, often served with caramel sauce.
The Hello Kitty Mini Pudding takes this classic dessert as a base with a whipped cream topping decorated with a cocoa powder rendering of the character. The left design shown in the image will be available until the end of May, then the one on the right will be on the menu for the whole of June.
But for a slightly more elaborate pudding, they’ve also come up with the Hello Kitty Strawberry Cake Pudding. This photogenic dessert includes a pudding base with sponge cake, strawberries, berry sauce, strawberry cream, topped off with a Hello Kitty marshmallow.
Lastly, there’s a Hello Kitty roll-cake big enough to be shared by several people. The sponge roll is wrapped around salted caramel cream and, of course, pudding. The cake is adorably decorated with motifs like Kitty’s bow, made out of chocolate.
These Hello Kitty dessert tributes will be on Pastel Pudding’s menu until the end of June 2022. Check out their website for a list of branches around Japan.
