Japanese Twitter User Turns Japan McDonald’s Fryer Chime Into Irresistibly Contagious Song
With eye-catching offerings like Mobile Suit Gundam Burgers and sakura mochi pies, it can be pretty easy to forget that McDonald's Japan has some exciting exclusive Chicken McNuggets and sauces as well on their menu.
One in particular that returns to sustained popularity are their Spicy Chicken McNuggets. The nuggets pack quite a punch when it comes to heat, and usually come with mouth-numbing sauces to double down on that as well as creamier types to cool down.
With the spicy nuggets back on the menu, we decided to try a special version of them available on McDonald's Japan's Yoru Mac (Night Mac) menu, which is a special dinner-time menu available starting from 5:00 PM at McDonald's in Japan which allows customers to double the amount of meat on their burger for 100 yen as well as combine nuggets and fries in sets (1 large fries and 10 piece nuggets, or 2 large fries and 15 piece nuggets), along with the two limited edition sauces available!

For the sake of comparison with the sauces, we picked up some regular McNuggets as well as the spicy variety as well. As you can see, the Spicy McNuggets are redder in color. On their own they pack some satisfying heat that grows over time with a little bit of a garlic kick, but are not anything that would blow the doors off of a seasoned spice-head.

The two available special sauces are Setouchi Lemon Tartar Sauce and 3 Types of Chili Pepper Sauce. The former is a creamy tartar sauce made with the renowned lemons from the Setouchi Inland, Japan's top citrus-producing region, which are sweeter than most others. The latter is just what it says it is, blending jalapeno, habanero, and Japan's Hawk Claw red hot chili pepper in one sauce.

Digging in, we found that the Setouchi Lemon Tartar Sauce provided the perfect complement to the spicy nuggets, adding a sweet and sour layer that keeps the heat in check for those not looking for too big a challenge. On the other hand, the 3 Chili Pepper sauce raises things to a whole other level! Those looking to really sweat it out will favor this sauce, which might be perfectly paired with regular nuggets or fries for a more manageable balance.

A large combo of fries and McNuggets (called the "Potenage" as French Fries are called "Fried Potatoes" in Japan) is 500 yen, while a special large combo runs 800 yen. Those looking to sample the flavor combinations of the sauces and both spicy and non-spicy nuggets will want to order a special large for the full fried experience.
