Tokyo suffered Monday night as a winter storm dropped anywhere from 10 to 20 centimeters of snow in the city, the largest snowfall in a single day since 2014.

As NHK reported above, major stations throughout Tokyo overflowed with throngs of people trying to get home even before the normal rush hour, with some stations forced to regulate crowds and limit the number of passengers entering them.

Many people found themselves unable to return home, forced either to spend the night in a capsule hotel or at some of the izakaya bars that exceptionally remained open to give stranded workers a warm place to shelter themselves from the elements until the morning.

However, not all was doom and gloom in the Japanese metropolis. Some Tokyoites took advantage of the heavy blanket of snow to have some fun...

Snowmen and other creations

Let's take a look at some of the creations that popped up throughout Tokyo in the last 24 hours:

Twitter user Project Eevee (@project_eevee), who graciously allowed us to use this image for our banner, wasted no time making a cute Eevee out of snow and posing it along side an Eevee plush toy for comparison:

---"I made a Snow-vee"

There was a Mimikyu out there too:

---"My son shoveled snow in front of our house ... And now we have a mysterious snowman sitting in front of the door.

And of course, Olaf:

---"I made Olaf during my break shoveling snow lol. But he melted overnight... I guess Elsa has to be there too (sob)"

Some creations were a bit more unconventional...

---"I made a urinal."

And it may come as no surprise that Pipimi and Popuko of Pop Team Epic showed up striking their favorite pose:

---"I finished my snowman!! It's kuso quality!! (I added some pixelation but there's no real point to it)"

Other Ways of Enjoying The Snow

There was so much snow on the ground that some enterprising Tokyoites even saw it fit to take out their skis and snowboards.

Normally crowded with people crossing in multiple directions, the famous crossing in front of Shibuya Station turned into a winter sports resort:

That's something you don't see every day in Tokyo!
